Stressful Times Highlight the Importance of Staying Healthy

Ainsworth Hot Springs, BC - With a rocky economic situation globally and with the word recession on everyone's lips, stress levels have shot up as much as the stock market has plummeted. The silver lining in this seemingly dark cloud shines with the importance of staying healthy in these difficult times. Mountain Trek's General Manager Kirkland Shave lectures on stress management and concurs. "Studies show that increased stress levels contribute to increased levels of cortisol, the stress hormone. And high levels of cortisol can contribute to belly fat which increases cardiovascular disease." Continues Shave, "Cortisol also lowers our metabolism from youthful anabolic "efficiency" to a catabolic decline into premature aging.  By focusing on what you can do to stay healthy such as eating well, exercising, and practicing stress management strategies, one can counteract the effects of stress."

Education is an important aspect of Mountain Trek's program, which "stresses" the importance of long-term lifestyle habits. Healthy eating habits and the importance of regular exercise are instructed in conjunction with stress management tips. "Stress is the main reason people show up at Mountain Trek as it can be the underlying reason for overeating, poor sleep habits or lack of energy and motivation to be active". Adds Shave, "The opportunity for our guests to completely disengage from their lives, no longer having to make any decisions and completely focus on themselves is rejuvenating and revitalizing. And there is nothing like hiking in the mountains and being in nature to recharge the body".

Mountain Trek offers its boot camp program in British Columbia from April thru to October 31. They also offer two satellite programs of a four-week duration in both North Carolina and Costa Rica. More information is available by calling 1-800-661-5161.
